As part of the effort to grow film business in North Carolina, the Carolina Film Festival will be holding their second edition this October. Celebrities, film and music stars, and politicians will be in attendance

Charlotte, NC – The 2nd edition of the Carolina Film Festival has been announced and will be taking place on October 19th – 20th 2019 at Winthrop University. They will be screening and awarding filmmakers from all across the county.

The organization’s desire is to help grow the movie industry in North Carolina, by encouraging filmmakers and presenting them with networking and collaborations opportunities.

During the event, awards will be given to films in eight categories. There will be question and answer sessions, and performances by top musical artists. Also, participating in the festival discussion panel is North Carolina Senator Paul Lowe Jr. Senator Lowe is the sponsor of Senate Bill 57 which will reenact tax credit for film studios to make movies in NC. There will also be a student workshop with so many things to learn for attendants.

The Carolina Film Festival has partnered with non-profit Emerald School of Excellence. Emerald is the 1st high school in North Carolina and South Carolina that caters for students who are battling drug addiction and substance abuse disorder. As part of a community support commitment, the festival will be donating 15% of their proceeds to support Emerald.

Preparations are already in full gear to ensure that this second edition is bigger, better, and more productive than the last one. Founder of Carolina Film Festival, Oliver J. Crooms IV is a man who is passionate about the progress of film in North Carolina and is prepared to give everything he has to see it succeed. His intention for establishing the festival is to motivate artists and provide them with the opportunity to network, expand, and grow their art and business.

Categories selected for screening and awards are “Best Short” “Best Trailer” “Best Music Video” “Best Drone” “Best Animated Short” “Best Student Short” “Best Director” and “Most Creative”. Filmmakers who haven’t submit their works can do so by taking advantage of the extended deadline, which ends on the 30th of August, 2019.

There will be a question and answer panel of celebrity guest that features Jeannine Kaspar (actor in Marvel’s Iron Man, Law & Order SVU, and Fox’s Gotham), Ricky Barksdale (actor in Marvel’s Black Panther, Glass, and Luke Cage), and Senator Lowe. There will be a performance from Jaron Strome who was a finalist on NBC’s hit show “The Voice”.

The festival will be hosted by Alyssa Hefner (Miss Teen North Carolina North America 2019) & Lily Richter (Miss Teen North America 2019). There will be a red carpet experience featuring Carolina Panther’s mascot Sir Purr. The panel will be taking place at Dina’s auditorium and students can attend for free by going to the website to get their tickets.

A workshop will also be organized as part of the Carolina Film Festival efforts to develop local talents and provide them with information on how to explore a career in film. The student workshop will be taking place on October 20th and will features lessons and Q&A Panels to educate the audience. During the day, a special Q&A with Marial Howell (actress from “Hunger Games” “The Blind Side” “The Color Purple” and “Hidden Figures”) will be taking place.

The events of the Carolina Film Festival will help attendees learn so much about the business of film in North Carolina and how to fit into the ecosystem. There will be plenty of fun, communications, connections, networking, innovation, and inspiration to grow.
