They have fought against abandonment, rejection, low self-esteem, guilt, loneliness, and failure and are now living full lives as entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, and nonprofit leaders. Against All Odds became #1 Amazon Bestseller in 10 categories in the U.S. and became an international bestseller in the UK. 

Teen Boss Mom Project interviewed visionary authors Dr. Janell Jones and Dr. Cortesha Cowan. The authors stated, “We wanted to provide something different for girls and young mothers who struggle with being new mothers. We understand the difficulties of being a young mother, especially as a minority. Some statics attached to teenage pregnancy are poverty, unemployment, and mental health issues. We provide the honest and raw truth about our journey and the power to overcome teenage pregnancy. Each author provides their incredible stories of how they transformed from teen mothers to boss ladies.”

Meet the Authors

Dr. Cowan is a two-time teen mom and is now the Founder/CVO of Mothers Helping Mothers Inc., Dr. Cowan is a business birthing coach, a best-selling author, contributing author, Loani Executive Global member, Ambassador Commonwealth Entrepreneur Club. Philanthropist, International Influencer. The Visionary Ambassador for DKsuomi Foundation in Nigeria. Dr. Cowan started Mothers Helping Mothers Nonprofit organization, which helps teen moms who’ve experienced homelessness and are pregnant. Dr. Cowan’s services extend to Africa!

Dr. Janell Jones became a teen mom at 17. She is now a licensed social worker in Ohio and practices as a licensed clinical therapist. Dr. Jones is the CEO of Melanin Grace Publishing, LLC, a publishing company, a certified life coach, international best-selling author, motivational speaker, and book coach. She shares the remarkable story of how she took the leap that awakened her to her purpose and destiny. 

Ty Wallace became a teenage mother at 14 and again at 19. Ty is now a serial entrepreneur who struggled her way from the bottom to the top. She grew up in drug-infested ghettos and had children while still a child herself. Her goal was to ensure that her girls did not have children while they were children, live in the ghetto, or go without life’s essentials. She earned her bachelor’s degree, had a fantastic career in healthcare as a lead CT/Radiology Tech and a relationship coach and all while raising two of the best girls ever!

Dr Tanikka Price, ESQ. became a teenage mother at 19 but experienced some traumatic events with her pregnancy. Dr. Price uses her training as a lawyer, her passion as a motivational speaker, and the knowledge she gained during her traumatic upbringing to develop and train others in dealing with trauma and living their best lives. She opened Price Legal Services Ohio, LLC in 2008 and has devoted herself to serving her community as an Attorney and currently as the Director of Education for The Healthcare Collaborative of Greater Columbus. As a Family Law Attorney, Dr. Price helped families navigate divorce, child custody, child support, and adoption. 

Tasha M. Yarborough, is a two-time teen mother. Mrs. Yarborough is now a CPA, MAFM, MBA, BSBA is a certified public accountant, holds two master’s degrees with distinction from Keller Graduate School of Management, and has a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business. Mrs. Yarborough is a principal in five businesses. Administration for NBMBAA. Tasha is a Financial Analyst at Columbus State Community College, where she projects revenues and provides strategic support.

Ciera Hale became a teenage mother at 13. She is now a serial entrepreneur, Nail Technician, Nonprofit founder/C.E.O. of New beginnings learning Center of Columbus Childcare Center, 1st Kids Inc Childcare Consulting services, and creator of S.H.E. is Me Non-profit. Ms. Hale believes that where’s there is passion, there is potential. Ms. Hale uses her creativity with designing nails! She’s the owner of Cee Meshine nails by Cee. Ms. Hale’s goal is to reach at least one young lady through her story of overcoming.

Ruby Cole became a teenage mother at the age of 17. Mrs. Cole is a Credit Center Specialist for a southern bank and founder and owner of Agitation Custom Crafts. As the owner of Agitation Customer Crafts, her goal is to bring the customer’s imagination to life. Mrs. Cole is a certified life coach that is passionate about empowering women ages 40 and up. She works to help them realize it is never too late to start over. Mrs. Cole enjoys assisting women to be successful and finding their S.H.E. – Smart Honorable Excellence. She has always been good at motivating, and she thanks God for leading her on that path. 

Darnisha “Shay” Davis became a teenage mother at the age of 14. Mrs. Davis is a native of Cleveland, Ohio but currently lives in Columbus, Ohio. Mrs. Davis took her tragedy, turned it into triumph, and believes that you can operate in your purpose despite your past. Mrs. Davis is a licensed cosmetologist in Columbus, Ohio, and the owner of Shay Lovely Braids, LLC. She is a generational curse breaker and teaches her children how to be entrepreneurs.

Sharita Davis became a teenage mother at the age of 14. She is now a registered nurse who has been practicing for 15 years. Ms. Davis is also a licensed minister and worship leader. She enjoys sharing her love and knowledge of God, His Word, health, nutrition, and self-care. She attended Temple University, earning her B.S. in Biochemistry. During that time, she became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Delta Mu Chapter). She earned her BSN from Drexel University’s ACE Program, an accelerated nursing program.

Tanesha Owensis became a teenage mother at 17. She is now a Gospel singer and a Registered Nurse. Now being called “The Singing Nurse,” she has blended the two ministries by hosting Blood Pressure screening and Organ Donor donations for the community that has been a great success. Tanesha also has a single titled It’s You and recently released a song titled Free in 2021.
