In My Neighborhood Dallas Creating a Safe Space for Creatives

Many creatives today struggle to find opportunities to express themselves and create art without judgment or fear. One community called In My Neighborhood Dallas is out to change that by providing content creators everywhere with a community that they can explore their artistic expressions, collaborate with others, and create without limits.

The Dallas, Texas-based artists’ group started in October 2020 through founder Dayo Awoyemi, an African immigrant who started in the creative industry as an intern for the entertainment giant Walt Disney. Dayo currently serves as an Ambassador for JP Morgan Chase Advancing Black Pathways. He is also an army veteran.

Dayo started In My Neighborhood Dallas to produce and fund short film ideas that show potential and quality. The group looks to partner with various creative professionals in the Dallas area and beyond and connect them with local businesses to sponsor their creative endeavors. The organization hopes to bring networking and creative opportunities to filmmakers, writers, directors, actors, and influencers. By doing so, Dayo hopes that the organization will foster a culture of collaboration among artists and creatives.

“The idea is designed to provide a safe space for rising creatives to connect and advance their artistic mastery while showcasing the authenticity of Dallas’s lifestyle and culture in the best picture,” shares Dayo Awoyemi. “We have a diverse team which consists of creative directors, videographers, photographers, video editors, video colorists, dance choreographers, music producers, graphic designers, web designers, on-set chefs, makeup artists, hair, and wardrobe stylists. Altogether, this is a diverse community of clever storytellers that collaborate in resuscitating big ideas.”

In My Neighborhood Dallas rests on the belief that art is life and remains one of the most effective ways to keep memories alive. The group hopes to spread this advocacy throughout the world by empowering creative professionals to become a source of inspiration for people everywhere. In My Neighborhood seeks to promote artistic mastery by giving every creative that walks through their doors a chance to share their vision and turn their dreams into reality.

The first project by In My Neighborhood Dallas was a short film, which features Nigerian-American influencer Nestreya. She is a singer, dancer, and model from New York who is best known for her musical influences from the African Diaspora. The project was sponsored by Salt N Pepper Kitchen – a popular Nigerian restaurant located in the Garland area of Dallas Texas, and featured a lineup of creative professionals like Nancy Ofoegbu, Violet D, Alexis Owens, Dr. Kwesi Yanful, Peni Sarfo, Cindie Ngomege, Evan Jones, Chukwuka Okeke, Steven Onoja, and many others.

Through their creative projects, In My Neighborhood Dallas has created more awareness of the arts locally and nationally while also bringing more exposure and awareness to their sponsor businesses. Dayo hopes that the group’s work will uplift more businesses, especially in these trying times where businesses are trying to cope and adapt to the new reality brought about by COVID-19.

In My Neighborhood Dallas seeks to grow its influence and increase its sponsor base in the coming years, even attracting larger brands looking to support the local scene in Dallas, Texas. By pushing creative work forward, Dayo and the team behind In My Neighborhood hope to tell compelling stories that will entertain and inspire millions worldwide.
